Lafferty Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do, the only Shotokan Dojo (school) in the cities of Vacaville, Fairfield and Suisun, opened its doors on October 14, 1998 with Chief Instructor Sensei Leonard Lafferty. Lafferty Traditional Shotokan Karate-do is affiliated with Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA).

After 40 years of karate experience, Sensei Lafferty has opened his dojo to "teach the most scientific and dynamic form of karate." Sensei Lafferty takes karate seriously and follows the teaching of Gichin Funakoshi (the founder of Shotokan Karate).

"You cannot teach this style without believing Gichin Funakoshi's philosophy", says Sensei Lafferty. The spirit of Master Funakoshi's philosophy is expressed in the Dojo Kun (School Precepts):

Seek Perfection of Character, Be Faithful, Endeavor, Respect Others, Refrain from Violent Behavior

Shotokan Karate has a lot more to offer students than just the physical rewards; it also develops
the mind and spirit.

Shotokan is one of the most popular Japanese systems of karate in the world today.

Sensei Lafferty's aim is to foster the growth of legitimate karate; to foster a sound mind, a proper spirit, a sound philosophy and to improve the physical well being of each member through the art of Shotokan Karate.
